Kenyan Children Thank CCV For Basketball Court

When I was in Kenya in 2009 I was speaking to 600+ middle schoolers at the Joska Boarding School. In the middle of my talk I shared a story about Michael Jordan. Realizing that no-one had ever heard of him I asked my friend Keith Ham outloud, “Aren’t you teaching these kids about basketball? We need to get these guys a basketball court!”

Applause erupted.

Crap. They just thought I promised them a basketball court, I thought to myself.

Turns out upon further investigation they did in fact think that.

So I returned to Philly, told our congregation the story, and our church took up an offering and did in fact build them that basketball court.

Here’s a video they sent as a way to say thanks.

I love these kids.

Do You Think My Pineapple Shirt Is Ugly?

When I spoke for the first time at the Joska Boarding School in Kenya I wore my famous (or infamous) pineapple shirt that I’ve worn the first day of June, every summer since the church began. It’s become quite a joke.

I asked the middle schoolers at Joska to raise their hands if they thought it was ugly.
